Class Schedule

FamU runs from 6-8:30 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

For updated information, please visit our calendar bit.ly/famucal.

Parent Classes:

Parents in the GED, Sign Language, and Beginning Literacy Class attend that class for two hours. Parents learning English in the beginning, intermediate, or advanced ESL classes have one hour of instructor time and one hour of English practice in the Rosetta Stone learning lab.

English for Speakers of other Languages Class

Parent classes offer leveled instruction. During registration, parents complete a test to determine their readiness and instructional level. Based on that assessment parents may be placed into one of four cohorts: beginning literacy, beginning English, Intermediate English, Advanced English, or GED. Parents who graduate that part of the program may continue their learning in the American Sign Language class or pick-up another language in the Rosetta Stone Language Lab.

GED:

Students may come take classes that are preparatory for the GED. Upon Compton of the class, students are given a diagnostic to determine if they are ready to take the official GED exams. Those that are ready are encourage to take them. The Woodburn Chemeketa Center is an official GED testing site. The student generally pays for the test fee.

Children’s Classes:

All children grades 1-5 have one hour of academic support and one hour of enrichment. The academic support is provided by highly-qualified staff, including at least one licensed teacher, and is in the area of mathematics or reading. Enrichment options vary each week, and may include (but are not limited to) art, PE, games, robotics, girl scouts, etc.

All PreK and Kinder and teen classes are two hours in length. Classes are taught by highly-qualified teachers and also local Pre-K specialist teachers. All PreK/Kinder classes are intentionally designed to be highly engaging and not simply “more of the same” that they get during the regular day. All students who attend must be potty-trained and out of diapers prior to participating.

Teens grades 6-12 may either volunteer to help in a class or a project, work on homework, receiving tutoring support, or attend English or ASL classes (pre-approval required).
